If you are planning to read this, I ask two things of you :  remember that I am a non-partisan, moderate independent in my politics, my faith, and  my lifestyle.  And the second that I ask is that if you start it, please read the entire blog.

I want to be perfectly clear about this  :  I am a firm believer in the two-party system.  I like options and we need options.  But as in any relationship, there comes a time for cooperation and consensus.  And in our current political environment, I am rarely seeing that.  The goal seems to be ” my way or the highway “……………

Our nation was established as one nation under God———but we appear to have forgotten that.   OR, even more unsettling, we choose to ignore it.  Either way we seem to have lost our direction, our purpose, and our spirit.

I am far from being one of the smartest people around and I suffer from reacting too quickly, among other faults I have.  But I do try to balance what I read and hear.  I also avoid the opinionated  ” talking heads ” on cable news.  I have, in the past, done my own research by moving from MSNBC to FOX in order to compare the biases that get mixed in with facts.  And wa-a-a-y  too many of us either don’t know the difference or don’t care so long as it supports our own rock-solid belief.

I even suggested once that a requirement before voting be that all Democrats had to watch FOX for a minimum of 4 hours and all Republicans had to watch MSNBC for the same amount of time.  Being facetious, of course, but it might create a balance.

Some observations that make me uncomfortable :

—–the Democratic party is under-the-gun to replace Biden , who has withdrawn, with a new candidate for the Presidency

—–the  Republican nominee for the Presidency narrowly avoided an assassination by a member of his own party

—–there is little or no attempt by our elected officials in Congress to reach across the aisle for consensus on some issues that , on many occasions , reflect the greater good for most Americans

—–too often the rhetoric from our politicians is provocative and demeaning

—–justice , as we have known it historically , has somehow become political , leaning this way and that way

—–none of us are perfect, and, in particular, our politicians, but a little understanding, a little gentleness, and little respect go a long way toward a sense of national unity

—–” a more perfect union ” should be the goal, but I’m not seeing it

—–our choice ( at the time of this writing )  in November seems less than ideal

—–perhaps it’s time for a third party, one that represents understanding, respect, and consensus

—–and my all-time answer lies again with education, believing with all my heart and soul that every child should be exposed to the difference in opinion and fact, beginning in kindergarten and enhanced and tested through high school.

My reference to the wings in the title is self-explanatory.  We are one nation as designed.  But the left wing and the right wing are crippling the bird by the negativity, the angst, the lack of respect for differing opinions, the volatile rhetoric , and the lack of understanding or even caring about all of us citizens who suffer from the political positions gone awry.

REPEATING that I am neither Democrat or Republican, but an independent who attempts to carefully weigh the issues, all the issues, and the candidates, all the candidates, before casting my vote.  And then I pray that I have made the right decision !
