I never think of the word , MEANDER , that I don’t remember Darby Welborn.  We were making plans to build our home in the woods and Darby was sub – contracted to do the driveway.   A nice man and a true Southern gentleman  , he spent time with us , discussing the project.

It was a  really long way from the street to the site selected for the house , so it was important to get it right——-for us and for him.

I said there was only one thing that was important to me  ( and I emphasized ) and that was  that the driveway ……..MEANDER…….

His response :    YOU -WANT- IT- TO- WHAT   ???????????????

But a meandering drive it is indeed , thanks to Darby and his expertise .

But on to my own wandering , disconnected , insignificant observations. Each stands alone.  So , bear with me and add some yourself…………

INFLATION :  bags , boxes , bottles are no longer filled to capacity.

LANGUAGE :  one hour with English teacher  but the rest  with parents/friends  too often  means  flawed communication.

REAL :  products such as chips and peanut butter now say “real”.  False before ?

GOLDEN RULE :  he who has the gold rules , as in college football and the federal government.

SMALL TOWNS :  law enforcement officials , city and county ,  know most of us by name , and  that’s a good thing.

BALES OF HAY :  riding around with Charlie every afternoon tells me that Franklin County has enough hay to feed every cow in the state.

HAY :  but where are the cows  and the horses and the goats ?

HOUSING :  new houses  ( cookie-cutters too often ) are popping up at every turn.

TECHNOLOGY : much like  ” The little girl , with the curl  in the middle of her forehead. When she was good , she was very, very good.  When she was bad , she was horrid ” .

ADS :  although about six weeks away from mid-term elections , political ads are in the mailboxes , on TVs , phones , and computers—–ad ( is that a pun ? ) nauseam.  And the money spent is unreal.

COMMUNITIES : riding around is to  enjoy the beautiful homes and properties in the rural areas , often only noted by neighbors.

PUBLIC CAMERAS :  since I am not , knowingly, doing anything wrong , I am appreciative of  cameras helping to keep me safe.

GRATITUDE : for my family , my friends  , my hometown , my faith , and especially for my full and special life with Byron , whom I chose for my lifetime sweetheart when I was eleven years old.
