GRIEF : that state of mind where nothing is the same ; where energy and motivation are missing ; where feeling sorry for oneself is uppermost ; where time stopped when grieving began ; and last , but certainly not least, where family and friends are the anchors , the sun in the morning and the moon at night. They make the grief at least tolerable, if not acceptable…………
Let me be specific : those acts of caring and love that send a clear message that angels don’t always have wings or halos ; good deeds and kind thoughts come in many packages ; empathy is alive and well ; forgotten connections are not really forgotten ; and all paths lead somewhere. In this case , to me and mine , just when it was most needed and wanted.
The diversity of reaching out is overwhelming :
—–memorials to our much-loved Lavonia First United Methodist Church , helping our local outreach and our message of faith
—–memorials to other charities
—–beautiful flower arrangements which speak to the resurrection
—–notes , cards , texts , emails , messages , and phone calls , all referencing the good times , gone but not forgotten
—–visits that are so very personal and touching
—–food , the very substance that is most needed and most difficult to consider and navigate
—–hugs from the heart
—–visitation at the funeral home , even when it means standing in line to speak to family
—–service itself , an outpouring of love and respect and another way to remember
—–and as the weeks and months go by , invitations for lunch or dinner , much needed and appreciated as time slips away.
Grief has no barrier when it comes to the necessary planning, the legal aspects, the business issues. Gratitude abounds for the ease of this heavy load by our very own funeral home and other powers-that-be . The blessing of a close-knit community shines.
Angels around ! You better believe it…………………
( Please share this if you know someone who is grieving ).
Thank you for sharing your words! I always enjoy reading your blog posts, but this one spoke straight to my heart. October isn’t our favorite month. We weren’t ready to live without our dads. James, 11 years ago this Thursday, and daddy a year ago… Memories keep us going. Jeff and I send our love.
My heart goes out to you. We are never really ready.
David was so proud of you : your character, your integrity, your chosen profession and the family you created.
Keep the faith. He is with you still.
Sending love to you, dear friend
And back atcha !
